McEnroe, aged 53, showcased artistry and natural shot-making ability in a routine 6-1 6-2 win.

Afterwards, the sporting icon could not hide his delight at securing a sixth Royal Albert Hall title.

Centrepoint is dedicated to ending youth homelessness.

But after two years away, McEnroe decided to return to the Statoil Masters Tennis, and he did so in style by gaining revenge against Bates at the Royal Albert Hall.
